TPC Grows 38 Percent, Expands Beyond Texas, Increases Purchasing Power

Plano, TX, - December 2, 2014 - TPC, a network of independent healthcare providers, today announced it recently signed agreements with Mountain Home, Arkansas-based Baxter Regional Medical Center (Baxter), Victoria, Texas-based Citizens Medical Center (Citizens) and Mission, Texas-based Mission Regional Medical Center (Mission), as new TPC partners.  These three new partners equal 38 percent growth in membership.

The addition of Baxter, Citizens and Mission are the result of an extensive, selective recruitment process by which TPC and each new partner vetted the organizational fit to ensure strategic alignment around values, objectives and a culture of commitment to fortify independence, improve the quality of care, and reduce costs.  The addition of these three new health systems validates TPC's unique value proposition to independent healthcare organizations and confirms that innovative models of collaboration successfully reach across state lines.

"From vision to mission to the communities we serve, TPC founders share much in common with all three new organizations," said Tim Lancaster, Chairman of TPC .  "Considering the addition of new partners is really about identifying a similar philosophy of commitment and independence, without geographic restrictions.  We worked diligently with the leaders of all three organizations to confirm alignment on values, mission, needs, and opportunities. In the end, each represented the 'organizational DNA' that TPC seeks, and we are excited to welcome our new strategic partners."

Mission Regional Medical Center was accepted by TPC in August.  Mission is the only local, independent, non-profit community hospital serving the people of the western part of Hidalgo and Starr counties. When asked why Mission chose to join TPC, Chief Executive Officer, Javier Iruegas said, "As dedicated stewards of limited health resources in our community, Mission Regional Medical Center continuously pursues opportunities to deliver the highest quality care at the lowest possible cost.  Given the escalating financial pressures on the healthcare industry, we recognized that to serve our community as an independent organization, we would benefit from collaborating the strengths of our hospital with those of other like-minded organizations to achieve system-like advantages.  As a new TPC partner, we can now leverage the scale-based advantages that are typically reserved only for large healthcare systems, all while maintaining our independent community structure".

Citizens Medical Center was accepted by TPC in September.  Citizens is a not-for-profit, community-owned hospital serving the people of Victoria, Texas and the surrounding area. "Citizens and its employees are part of the community. Our deep commitment to our organizational mission drives us to seek opportunities to lead our community forward with innovation and compassion.  TPC represents a unique opportunity for our community to benefit from collaborating with leaders from similar communities in achieving quality care at a lower cost.  Additionally, remaining independent is critical to ensuring the fulfillment of our mission," said Stephen Thames, Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Medical Center, "TPC will help us achieve that."

And earlier this month, TPC welcomed Baxter Regional Medical Center as the newest partner. Baxter serves a 14-county geographical market across Arkansas and Missouri, and represents the first organization to join TPC from outside of Texas.  Baxter's decision to join TPC serves as additional confirmation that independent, community-based healthcare providers are exploring new, innovative models to achieve aggregated strength without resorting to mergers and acquisitions.  Ron Peterson, Chief Executive Officer of Baxter, shared his perspective about joining TPC saying, "Our organizational purpose is focused and simple: Baxter is committed to serving our community as a comprehensive, independent health system. It became clear during our discussions with TPC founders that we share a common purpose.  This unique alignment is a powerful force for independent healthcare organizations and we are excited about the opportunity to work together with our new partners in TPC."

TPC's President and Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Brenner, added, "TPC organizations have proven, without question, that independent healthcare systems can achieve significant, tangible, large system value, yet still remain independent.  TPC has developed a unique 'culture of commitment' that enables its partners to strategically collaborate on the initiatives they deem most critical.  We are very excited to welcome Baxter, Citizens, and Mission. We look forward to collaborating with them to strengthen their long-term position as independent, community-based providers."
